Back to the Future (franchise)
Back to the Future is a science fiction adventure comedy film series. The franchise follows the adventures of a high school student, Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox), and an eccentric scientist, Dr. Emmett L. Brown (Christopher Lloyd), as they use a DeLorean time machine to time travel to different periods in the history of Hill Valley, California.
-----
The DeLorean time machine is a fictional automobile-based time travel vehicle device featured in the Back to the Future franchise. In the feature film series, Dr. Emmett L. Brown builds a time machine from a retrofitted DMC DeLorean car, to gain insights into the history and the future. Instead, he and Marty McFly end up using it to travel across 130 years of Hill Valley history to change the past for the better and to undo the negative effects of time travel. The car requires 1.21 gigawatts of power and needs to travel 88 miles per hour so it can time travel. One of the cars used in filming is on display in a museum in Paarl, South Africa. The official Back to the Future DeLorean can be viewed at the Petersen Automotive Museum.
-----
Hill Valley is the fictional town in California as shown with the clock that serves as the setting of the Back to the Future trilogy and its animated spin-off series. In the trilogy, Hill Valley is seen in four different time periods (1885, 1955, 1985 and 2015) as well as in a dystopian alternate 1985. The films contain many sight gags, verbal innuendos, and detailed set design elements, from which a detailed and consistent history of the area can be derived.
-----
The film has been inducted into the National Film Registry, having been deemed "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant" and deserving of preservation by the Library of Congress. As one of the elite films selected as enduring importance to popular American culture, Back to the Future's preservation ensures that this timeless classic will be enjoyed by future audiences throughout the rest of time!

With no plutonium, Doc explains that the only power source capable of generating the necessary 1.21 GW of electricity for the time machine is a bolt of lightning. Marty is then rescued by the band who unlock the trunk and drive away Biff's gang, and rushes to stop him. Meanwhile, George, enraged, knocks out Biff, and Lorraine accompanies him to the dance floor, where they kiss while Marty performs with the band, securing his existence in the future.

Marty, Doc, and an unconscious Jennifer return to 1985, unaware of Biff's actions. The 1985 they return to has changed dramatically: Biff has used the almanac to become one of the wealthiest and most corrupt men in America; changed Hill Valley into a chaotic dystopia; secretly killed Marty's father, George, in 1973; forced Marty's mother, Lorraine, to marry him; and had Doc committed to an insane asylum. Marty and Doc deduce that the 2015 Biff took the time machine to change 1985, and Marty learns from the alternate 1985 Biff that he got the almanac on November 12, 1955. Biff tries to kill Marty, but Marty flees and travels to 1955 with Doc, leaving Jennifer on her own front porch.
-----
Marty secretly follows the 1955 Biff, and watches him receive the almanac from his 2015 self. Marty then follows him to the high school dance, being careful to avoid interrupting the events from his previous visit. After several fruitless attempts, Marty finally gets the almanac, leaving Biff to crash into a manure truck. Marty burns the almanac, reversing Biff's changes to the timeline, as Doc hovers above in the time machine. Before Marty can join him, the DeLorean is struck by lightning and disappears.
